Is Your Baby Monitor Safe from Hackers?
It’s no secret that baby monitors have been susceptible to hacking. There have been so many horrifying stories circulating around that make you wonder why people would do this sort of thing. Just imagine waking up in the middle of the night and hearing a strange voice coming from your monitor and finding that someone has been watching your private moments. That’s enough for me to have me running for the hills to be honest.
Most parents want some kind of way to monitor their newborn while they’re asleep so you will know when they wake up or are crying. You're faced with these 3 options when it comes to monitoring your little one:
- Audio baby monitor
- Digital video baby monitor
- IP Camera/Wi-Fi baby monitor
Of these three options, the audio baby monitor
is obviously the safest route to go. However, most parents do want to be able to visually see what’s their child is up to. This kind of thing comes down to preference and whether or not audio will be sufficient enough for you to have a peace of mind.
While some parents choose to stick with audio baby monitors, the digital baby monitor
is probably the most popular option. They are not as “high tech” as Wi-Fi baby monitors, but they are by far more secure since you can’t hack closed-circuit cameras. It comes with all the features that you would want in a baby monitor (night vision, long distance range, two-way talk, etc.) and you can feel at ease knowing that your system is secure.
Lastly is the Wi-Fi baby monitor
, which in theory seems like a great idea since you can see your child from anytime from your phone. However, the major downfall is that since it does connect to the Internet it leaves you susceptible to hackers. There are ways to better protect yourself from these things happening to you (i.e., having a secure password, lock down your Wi-Fi, etc) but in my opinion I would just stick with a baby monitor that will give you a peace of mind to begin with. It really comes down to what your needs are in terms of monitoring and personally I think that you really can't beat the digital video baby monitor. It comes packed with features that allow you to keep an eye on your little one and you can feel safe knowing that strangers can't creep on your private moments.
Below is an example of an extremely popular video baby monitor that we have talked about in many of our previous blog posts (review here
